YTM Leads National Initiative to Empower 100 Participants, Including Persons with Disabilities, in Inclusive Disaster Preparedness

30th Jun 2026

Community & Nation Building

YTM is continuing its efforts to strengthen the nation's sustainable disaster management agenda by building resilient communities. In line with this initiative, YTM organised the National Workshop For Disability Inclusive Disaster Preparedness 2026.

This inaugural program is the result of a strategic collaboration between YTM and RED A, with the support of NADMA as a government strategic partner, to create an integrated platform that brings together various agencies, institutions and communities to drive a more inclusive and impactful approach to disaster management.

The workshop brought together 100 participants, including members of the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) community, government agencies, NGOs, higher education institutions (IPT) and humanitarian experts. The program included:
- Policy Sharing: Sessions focusing on international and domestic Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) policies.
- Interactive Sessions: Group workshops and an introduction to the Next Generation Malaysian Emergency Response Services 999 (NG MERS 999) application.
- Practical Training & Simulations: A fire simulation conducted by the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (Bomba) and flood evacuation and PwD victim management simulations at Temporary Evacuation Centres (PPS), led by the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM) and the Department of Social Welfare (JKM).

The program emphasises the active participation of the PwD communities, including the PwD Youth Council, the National Council for the Blind Malaysia, and the Malaysian Federation of the Deaf, which provided critical input and recommendations to improve the national disaster management system.

The outcomes and insights from this workshop will be documented as an official reference. This documentation will be used to enhance existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and develop disaster management guidelines that are truly inclusive and future-ready.
