120 Students and 30 Teachers Take Part in Perak State Morse Code Challenge 2026

02nd Nov 2026

Art, Culture & Heritage

A total of 120 students and 30 teachers from 30 secondary schools across Perak participated in the Perak State Morse Code Challenge 2026, organised by Yayasan TM (YTM) and the Taiping Telegraph Museum. Held at the TM Complex in Taiping, participants competed to decode audio messages and transmit messages using Morse keys.

Taiping is more than just the venue for this competition. The country’s first telegraph line, connecting Kuala Kangsar and Taiping, was established in 1874. Today, Morse code continues to be used in amateur radio communications, including by communities that help maintain emergency communication when conventional channels are disrupted.

Congratulations to SMK Convent Taiping for emerging as the champion, followed by SMK Seri Iskandar in second place and SMJK Hua Lian in third place!

The closing ceremony was officiated by YB Mohd Azlan Helmi, Perak State Executive Councillor for Communications, Multimedia and NGOs. Also in attendance were Cik Nor Fadhilah Mohd Ali and Puan Ainol Shaharina Sahar.

This challenge complements TM’s efforts through YTM to nurture interest in STEM and digital technology through the TM Future Skills programme. Thank you to all participants, teachers, schools and partners for making this initiative a success.
