Disaster Preparedness: Collaborative Training for Enhanced Response
21st May 2024
As part of Yayasan TM (YTM) continued efforts towards better disaster management, we have extended our disaster preparedness programmes to various stakeholders, such as communities, NGOs, and government agencies, and the most recent one has involved TM Reaching Out Volunteers (TMROVers), and the Pasukan Bantuan Bencana Istana Negara (PBBIN), one of our strategic partners in relief mission.
49 participants from the PBBIN and TMROVers involved in the Humanitarian Operation & Swift Water Training was held in Gopeng, Perak, on 6-8 November 2023.
The training was a collaboration between the Istana Negara and YTM, executed by our strategic partner, Red A Humanitarian Development Global. It was also supported by the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) and the Civil Defense Force (APM).
Nine classroom learning modules covered tasks like Pusat Kawalan Tempat Kejadian (PKTK) duties during disaster emergencies, humanitarian cycle and preparedness and humanitarian supply chain management based on Sphere Standards, the importance of effective disaster aid in Malaysia and grab bag preparation. Three practical modules also included, such as disaster simulation and tabletop exercises, as well as swift water training.
The programme successfully achieved its objectives by providing participants with valuable knowledge and skills in disaster humanitarian operations, fostering synergy, and enhancing team dynamics among all key stakeholders. Additionally, participants gained essential self-rescue techniques in swift water, further enhancing their preparedness and ability to respond effectively in real-life scenarios.
We hope this training not just benefit the participants, but also their families and relatives when disaster occurs.
